TerraColor® Global Satellite Imagery Dataset Licensed by DigitalGlobe
21 November 2011 - Earthstar Geographics LLC (San Diego, CA, USA) today announced that they have reached an agreement with DigitalGlobe Inc. (Longmont, CO, USA) to license their TerraColor® 15-meter global satellite imagery dataset. DigitalGlobe will integrate the TerraColor imagery into the DigitalGlobe Global BasemapTM service, bundling it with the company’s high-resolution imagery and acting as a reseller for the product to their client base.

“We are proud that a company with DigitalGlobe’s extensive knowledge and stellar reputation in the satellite imaging arena has chosen TerraColor to enhance the DigitalGlobe Global Basemap service,” said Eric Augenstein of Earthstar Geographics. “We will continue to upgrade the TerraColor content, in our ongoing efforts to produce the finest 15-meter global dataset on the market.”

“Adding TerraColor imagery into the DigitalGlobe Global Basemap portfolio enables us to effectively address a broader set of customer requirements,” said Kevin Bullock of DigitalGlobe. “What sets Earthstar Geographics apart is their commitment to consistently improve the imagery they provide. This enables us to deliver a high quality product to our end-users with the best possible imagery available.”

TerraColor is an orthorectified global imagery base map built primarily from Landsat 7 satellite imagery. Applications include web-based mapping, GPS tracking, 3-D visualization, GIS backdrops, television, print and film images, military/defense logistics, flight simulation, accurate cartographic mapping and many others. TerraColor provides complete pole-to-pole global coverage, and to date over two million square miles of imagery have been upgraded to reduce cloud cover and improve image quality. The product is processed using Earthstar's global ocean mask to remove clouds, ice, and image edges from ocean areas, and may be purchased with either a standard blue ocean or a bathymetric color shaded relief ocean fill.

Earthstar Geographics Continues Upgrades to TerraColor® 15-Meter Global Satellite Imagery
12 October 2010 - Earthstar Geographics LLC (San Diego, CA, USA) today announced the release of the latest round of upgrades to their TerraColor 15-meter global satellite imagery dataset. Most of the upgrades were made to reduce cloud cover in problem areas such as Tierra del Fuego, the Kamchatka Peninsula and many other areas using precision terrain corrected Landsat 7 imagery. The current upgrades are part of an ongoing program to improve the TerraColor dataset, and many examples are provided in a PDF file on the company's www.terracolor.net website.

"We continue to upgrade TerraColor in our effort to produce the world's most complete medium resolution global satellite imagery dataset with the least cloud cover,” said Eric Augenstein of Earthstar Geographics. "Future upgrade targets include the cloudy equatorial regions in South America, Africa and Southeast Asia, as well as other areas. “

Earthstar Geographics Releases TerraColor® 15-Meter Global Satellite Imagery with Ocean Relief Shading
22 February 2010 - Earthstar Geographics LLC (San Diego, CA, USA) today announced the release of a new version of their TerraColor PLUS 15-meter global satellite imagery dataset that includes bathymetric relief shading in the ocean areas. The addition of ocean bathymetric relief shading adds interest to global and regional views, and provides geologic information about plates, continents and islands. The bathymetric shaded relief image was seamlessly integrated with the TerraColor dataset using Earthstar's global 15-meter ocean mask, and was generated from gridded seafloor topography data developed by Scripps Institute of Oceanography.

“We are pleased to offer the new ocean shaded relief version of TerraColor PLUS, and feel it is a nice complement to the original version with a generic blue ocean fill,” said Eric Augenstein of Earthstar Geographics. “Along with our previous ocean masking, Antarctica Landsat 7 imagery and other enhancements, this demonstrates our continuing commitment to providing our clients with the best possible global satellite imagery dataset with true pole-to-pole coverage.”

Earthstar Geographics Releases Next Generation of TerraColor® 15-Meter Global Satellite Imagery
22 September 2009 - Earthstar Geographics LLC (San Diego, CA, USA) today announced the release of TerraColor PLUS, the next generation of its 15-meter global satellite imagery dataset. TerraColor PLUS includes many enhancements over the original version released in 2005, including the addition of 15-meter imagery for Antarctica to 82.6 degrees south. The product also removes clouds, ice and image edges from all ocean areas using Earthstar's 15-meter global ocean mask, and fills the oceans with a consistent blue color.

“We are excited about the release of TerraColor PLUS, and feel it is the most complete 15-meter global imagery dataset on the market,” said Eric Augenstein of Earthstar Geographics. "The ocean masking and seamless coverage provide a clean global image that makes it easy to use off-the-shelf for a wide variety of mapping, visualization and media applications."

TerraColor Satellite Imagery Used by Alaska Statewide Digital Mapping Initiative
20 December 2007 - Earthstar Geographics LLC (San Diego, CA, USA) today announced that the Alaska Statewide Digital Mapping Initiative (SDMI) purchased rights to use the ocean-masked version of their TerraColor 15-meter satellite imagery. The SDMI will use TerraColor as the medium resolution base imagery layer in their popular Alaska Mapped website (www.alaskmapped.org), and also provide on-line access to the data to many Alaska state and federal agencies. The SDMI also provides the layer to users as part of suite of image products delivered through a rapidly growing Open Geospatial Consortium Web Map Services (OGC WMS) engine. TerraColor is built from imagery captured by the Landsat 7 (ETM+) satellite, and provides seamless, tonally balanced coverage of most of the world’s land areas in simulated natural color. Applications include land use analysis, vegetation mapping, military/defense logistics, 3-D visualization, flight simulation, accurate cartographic mapping and many others.

“We are excited that the Alaska SDMI has chosen TerraColor for their mapping applications,” said Eric Augenstein of Earthstar Geographics. “We are proud that the imagery is being used in ways that will help all Alaskans better visualize and understand their diverse state."

“The TerraColor 15-meter imagery delivers an excellent intermediate resolution base layer for Alaska,” said Tom Heinrichs of the SDMI. “It is a clean, nicely balanced image product and our users are already putting it to good use. The large area of Alaska makes an attractive, easy-to-use intermediate resolution layer a critical requirement for many of our clients."
